This year, I developed an interactive video game asking my girlfriend to be my Valentine!
Having made a website last year, I felt compelled to "step up my game" a little bit, and decided to develop a video game in Unity. I had recently been working with this technology, and feeling as though I had a strong hold on the engine, I decided to apply these skills to a fun way of asking her.
I had seen a lot of posts regarding asking significant others to be Valentines, but I was yet to see a video game. I was slightly inspired by a web page featuring unique animations, pixel art, and sounds, but having no idea how to develop this I opted for a game.
Overall, it was a very fun learning experience, and I took away skills in 2D game development, including sprite animation, object interactions, tilemaps, and dialogue text boxes. I had expected this project to pose a bit of a challenge, but I actually managed to finish it in less than 24h.
My game revolves around a pixel-art island (I purchased these assets for $3), and a player who encounters a flower. This tulip, which is pink since she loves pink, speaks to the player and pops up an interactive dialogue box. It then asks the user "yes" or "no" regarding if she would like to be my Valentine, but "no" isn't actually an answer ;) Balloons will then fly upwards in celebration when she eventually says yes!
If you would like to view the project yourself or play the game, I've posted it to my GitHub linked here.
